The Gathering on Main
The Gathering on Main is a recurring event in my hometown of Owasso, OK. On the first Thursday of each month from April to October, the Redbud District braces for the “Biggest Street Party of the Year!” Every month, local vendors line Main Street, and live entertainment fills the atmosphere. The event usually features local businesses and music.
I used the Gathering’s logo as color inspiration for these poster designs. I also wanted to invoke the terms fun, family, and fair in these poster designs.
To represent the Main Street vibe of the Gathering, I used a generalized street sign shape to hold the event’s title, “The Gathering on Main.” I included balloons in the design since they are reminiscent of a fair or carnival and feel family-friendly.
Using the colorful logo, I created separate color schemes. The first primarily featured the purple and blue colors because they seemed the most omnipresent. Then, I tried using blue and orange as the primary colors. Finally, I added yellow and pink colors since they give off a summer-like vibe.
Trial and (a lot of) Error
My initial designs (below) were scattered and hectic. I tried to invoke as many carnival games and ideas as possible with these. The early designs ended up being used mostly for inspiration on the final design layout.
