The Hex House

The Mistress of the Hex House, Carolann Smith, is notorious for entrancing and enslaving two young women who she kept as prisoners in her basement. In the Hex House series through Rothline Entertainment, each episode discusses a different person involved in the mysterious happenings of the Hex House in Tulsa.

The episode below centers around Faye Smith and the mysterious circumstances of his death. I recorded and edited the video footage, with Larry Roth’s script. Larry Roth, of Rothline Entertainment, produced and directed the project.

Carolann’s husband, Faye, was a semi-wealthy man before losing his at the Williamsport Wire Rope Company during the Great Depression. He became an insurance salesman to make up for his lost income. Carolann encouraged him to sell an insurance policy for their housekeeper with Carolann as the beneficiary. Shortly after, Faye was found dead on the side of Sand Springs Road with a shotgun aimed at his chest. His mysterious death was ruled a suicide. Beulah, the housekeeper, stormed out of Carolann’s home after an argument and was hit by an oncoming car.

Skip to 1944, federal officials investigated Carolann’s residence for fraudulent ration books. She filed ration books for seven people at her home, one of whom included her bulldog Bon-Bon. The police found two young women, Virginia Evans and Willetta Horner, held as prisoners and sleeping on orange crates in the basement. During court trials, both women claimed they felt “entranced” by Carolann and worked during the day to bring her their paychecks. Virginia also claimed Carolann sent her father false invoices as a nurse for “Virginia’s care.”
